About this website
Electricity Safety isn't the most exciting topic; it's not something people tend to think about until something goes wrong. At Ausgrid, we want to change how people think about electricity safety and start a conversation to encourage us all to be safer around electricity every day. Having information easily available and all in one spot is a great place to start. Electicitysafety.com.au has been built to help Australians better understand the common risks when it comes to using or working around electricity.
Each year in Australia, there are around 20 deaths from electrocution, with many more walking away with a range of life changing injuries. Half of these sadly, happen in the home, and while workplace standards and practices have come a long way, within the construction industry, electrocution is still the second leading cause of death.
The mission behind ElectricitySafety.com.au is to drive change by increasing awareness of electrical hazards, and educating Australians on how to live, work or respond safely when it comes to situations involving electricity.
Ausgrid is the largest distributor of electricity on Australia's east coast. We own and operate the network of substations, powerlines, underground cables and power poles that deliver power to our 1.8 million households, small and large business customers, as well as all those who rely on and benefit from their energy supply. Our primary focus is the safe management and operation of the electricity network.
Our network and operations span the traditional country of 17 languages, tribal and nation groups in Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of this land and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future.
Our vision is for communities to have the power in a resilient, affordable, net zero future.
